Biography of Dahlia
Instructor, international performer, choreographer, troupe director, event sponsor, studio owner. Dahlia's Oriental Dance career expands 20 years. Her specialty is Egyptian Cabaret. Her style is artistic and expressive contrasting fluidity with dynamics.
Dahlia developed her unique style studying with famous Egyptian and other Middle Eastern dancers and continues to delight audiences with her beautiful Egyptian Cabaret style of Oriental Dance. Her background includes extensive studies in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, ballroom and Latin ballroom as well as Persian, Saudi, Greek and Oriental dance.
Dahlia has performed and taught workshops in major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Denver. Internationally, she has performed in Spain, France, Monaco, Greece and Mexico. She has been featured around the world in such venues as top Middle Eastern nightclubs, concerts (including Lollapalooza and the Gypsy Kings), World's Fairs, international beauty pageants, festivals, special events (including many stage shows), weddings, restaurants, and private parties. Dahlia was a main attraction at the 1992 World's Fair in Seville, Spain representing the United States and opened the International Show at the Tucancun Hotel in Mexico, 2003.
Dahlia's audiences have included such celebrities as Dolly Parton, Marlo Thomas, Alan Thick, Darrel Hannah, Cyndi Laupper, Teri Garr, Danny Glover, Jennifer Beals, Steve Allen, Lee Horsley, Debbie Allen, Miles Copeland, Perry Farrell, and the rock group White Snake. She is a former member of "Avaz International Dance Theater" of Los Angeles and "Karen Lee Dance Theatre" of Denver. She was a regularly featured dancer in the cable television series "Belly Dance with Atea". Her performances can be seen on the videos and DVDs "Belly Dance Slow Moves" and "Belly Dance Fast Moves". Highly respected as an instructor, Dahlia has been teaching middle eastern dance for sixteen years and Ballroom/Latin dances for over seven years.
Presently, Dahlia teaches belly dance group classes in Westminster, Lakewood and Denver. Her instruction is progressive, structured and emphasizes technique. Dahlia is available for private lessons as well as workshops and performances. She also teaches Ballroom and Latin Ballroom at her studio, Dance Fusion, in Denver.
Spirit of Cairo Dancers
The Spirit of Cairo Dancers is an Oriental Dance (Belly Dance) troupe from the Denver Metro Area of Colorado. Their leader, director, primary choreographer, event organizer and producer is the internationally renowned, Dahlia.
The Spirit of Cairo dancers have been dancing in various configurations since 1992. In with many of it's current dancers since 1999. Many of the members have been dancing for several years and some come from other dance backgrounds such as Country, Ballroom, Modern, and even Argentine Tango.
They perform at both public and private venues. Their repertoire includes contemporary as well as traditional dances. Their primary style of dance is Egyptian Cabaret, although many of the dances have been influenced by other cultures and dance styles as well, such as Egyptian Folkloric, Flamenco, Celtic, and even Ballet and Jazz dance.
The main goal of the Spirit of Cairo Dancers is to provide an entertaining, enjoyable experience while promoting the art of Oriental Dance. Able to dance as a group, in trios, duets or solos, their versatility allows them to perform at many different sizes and types of venues. They dance to classical Egyptian and traditional flokloric music as well as Arabic pop and some popular American music with Middle Eastern flavor. Typical performances might include dancing with veils, finger cymbals, canes, fans, and even candles. They have something to please many different types of audiences.
